This is brilliant, and exactly what I want to approach in my work. There are some seriously important things going on here, and it says so much more interesting things about the Internet than twitter or facebook analysises can ever do.
Academic theory vs. practice rant
So after a week of shopping classes I’ve decided to go for a Foucault seminar in the performance studies department, not only because of the chance to get to move through his entire body of work, but also because I want to move away from the dude-iness in my own department. I have recently sort of figured out my thesis topic and it has to do with feminism, activism, aesthetics and teen...

Healing with Hole and slowly closing in on a thesis topic, trembling among the things closest to my heart, I think this could be big (!?)

Reclaiming Optimism Through Critical Distance
Tonight is a night when I get lost on Wikipedia reading that Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick died in cancer at age 58 and I cry a little bit because she was such an awesome theorist and then I realize I am actually going to take a seminar with the other prolific affect theorist, Lauren Berlant, this spring, and I die a little death of happiness because of the excitement and the feeling in my gut that...

When you go to the immigration interview they ask you if you need an interpreter. Answering no with pride and almost no accent doesn’t really matter inside the beige complex with America posters. You dont have to speak English to be part of this country, we’re all equal on paper.
We have an attorney there to speak for us. He wears a beige trench coat which goes perfectly with his...

As people were rioting across the nation and the world, I was preparing the photo album that would present us as a couple with a relationship strong enough to justify immigration. By now the protests had spread to most major US cities and the state had started to respond with force; just two days before our interview the Oakland police threw tear gas grenades and fired rubber bullets at peaceful...
